Scrolling through my feed this morning, I realized something. We live in a world that barely stops. Notifications pile up. Videos play automatically. Messages arrive faster than we can read them. Every surface seems to demand attention.
And then there is tea.
A cup of tea does not ping. It does not scroll. It does not ask for likes or comments. It waits quietly, asking only that we notice it if and when we can.
I’ve shared tea with friends who live almost entirely online. They check their phones mid-sip, scroll through TikTok while the water boils, and yet, even then, the act of drinking tea, however briefly, offers a pause. A moment of stillness. A small rebellion against the constant motion.
Tea is not flashy. It does not need validation. It is not about aesthetics or viral trends. Its value lies in patience, presence, and the subtle act of drinking something warm while letting life continue around you.
For Gen Z, whose days are filled with fast feeds, endless notifications, and the pressure to perform even online, tea offers something rare: a quiet pause that asks nothing in return.
So here is the question I leave you with: in a world that moves constantly and expects us to keep up, when was the last time you let a cup of tea exist without a screen, a post, or a plan attached?
With quiet regard,
N. P. Lim
